   Amem “The working class poor” does not get pushed out- they work, and usually have rent stabilized leases, and have been there forever, and they know that they have to pay rent or go. Perhaps the public assisted or section 8 get phased out, and that to me is a good thing.There will always be social programs for those people.
   Why? why do we feel our neighborhoods are “better” when the anglos get there? Is it because they are not home or in the hood all day hanging around, purposeless?
   I live and grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the mostly working class grand-metro area.I am 100% Latina and my parents would kill me if I ever ventured into the “southside” .
   I say it is our faults-latinos .
   Why couldn't we keep nice clean streets? free of noise, litter and drugs?
   I remember visiting someone I was doing religious instructions with for communion, and was scared shitless. Nothing happened but the dirtiness felt dangerous going upstairs to the apartment, and her mom looked and talked rough and loud.
   When I got home, I was so happy to be in my white canopy bed across from my annoying sister!
   Later on I lived in Elmhurst for a while, and it was all clean and latino! difference? most were homeowners Immigrant and middle working class. They had pride in what they worked for!
   If everything is handed to you, why do you feel you deserve anything?
