Okay, here's what you need to know. *The RX8 has a wankel rotary engine. It's completely different from a piston engine. You can look it up, if you want, but you need to know that it burns oil on purpose. About half way every oil change, it will be down to the low level. More, if you go to a track (which I definitely suggest, once you've got the knack of driving manual. Or at least autocross!). It's part of the design, which keeps rotary engines running smoothly. *The fuel mileage isn't great. Unfortunately, for only having a 1.3 litre engine, it's going to burn fuel surprisingly quick. Then again, a sportscar isn't about mileage or practicality. Consider looking up average mileage and see how you feel about it. *The core of the engine has a 100,00 mile or 200,000 km warranty on it. This means that if the housings or rotors are damaged at all/the car looses compression, Mazda will cover it. You might have to bitch a bit, though. *This one's sort of important to people: **There are almost no worthwhile bolt on mods short of forced induction**. An expensive exhaust and header combo will net you maybe a dozen horse power. Some intakes actually lose hp. If you're into these sort of things, the best thing you can do is delete the catalytic converter. Keep in mind emissions requirements, though. In some states this will be illegal. I STRONGLY suggest that you head on over to [The RX8 Club Even if you don't want to build a track monster, it's filled with a metric fuckton of good information. And there's ALWAYS parts selling in the buy and sell section. Really easy to pick up parts and such. So the GT is definitely the only version that should be offered. The GT version has the 18 inch rims, the bigger brakes, sunroof (I believe) and the leather interior/heated seats. For me, it's DEFINITELY worth it. I think for the price you're looking at, you could find a similar GT. Be patient, if need be :) I'm here all night : D

it's not at all worth it espically a mercury, go out and buy annd old max, or civic youll be alot happier.

But if you were to buy the engine alot can go wrong with a used engine but it also can be a good thing, there is alot of cons and pros to that.

Cons: Could be high mileage, damaged, car wont run right, less gas mileage, break down more often ect.

Pros: Opposite of cons.
