Tool Kits

Can anyone tell me the basics of starting off a Tool Kit collection?

I like to work with wood and I have an interest in architecture and electrical engineering. I also have an interest in appliances.

you can get basic kits from hardware stores. basics of a hammer, screwdriver (you can get ones that have a removable bottom where u store different heads for it, those are awesome), nails, screws, pliers, pencil, pen, electrical tape, duct tape, and whatever else u find u use often. depends on exactly what you're doing.

What tool set should I get my friend?

I've got a friend who works on his car a lot, but hasn't got a decent tool set with all the pieces so I want to get him a good one for his 21st. I wondered if anyone had any good suggestions?

I have a budget of around £50 (moderately flexible)

Also, what is it good to look for in tool kits? How can you tell which ones are of best quality? Or should I be looking for tool sets with loads of pieces?

go for quality not quantity if he does alot of work. get tools with lifetime warranty. a good set of metric and standard sockets, or open end/boxed end wrenches would be the most used tools.
