Size Pattern
Does anybody know a way to take a sewing pattern and resize it to a larger size?
I found a top pattern I like but it doesn't go up to my size. Does anybody know a way that you can resize a pattern?
Barbara Deckert's book Sewing For Plus Sizes has a section on
grading up a pattern. However, be sure to do a muslin of the pattern -- it's pretty common that the usual grading scheme badly distorts the neck, shoulders, and upper chest sections (e.g., shoulders don't get longer as you add girth). In addition, patterns are commonly sized for B cups, so a full bust adjustment is often needed.
You may be better off choosing the size that fits you best through
neckline and shoulders, and then adding at the side seams, swinging the armscye out as needed.
Can you give us the pattern number you like? Perhaps we can suggest how to get a similar look from a pattern that is graded properly for your size?
