Knight Muffler What exhaust would sound best on Firebird Trans Am V8?
I am looking for a good deep throaty sounding exhaust for my v8 trans am, almost like a Knight Rider Mustang deep exhaust sound. Can someone tell me what would be the best to get? Should I just put a 80 series muffler on or should i get a catback to go on with it, along with some chrome tips? I want it to be a deep sound but i dont want it really loud at idle.

Well, here I go again...Flowmasters are overpriced junk! DynoMax Ultra Flo mufflers (P/N 17288) outflow them by over 40% as determined by independent bench testing. These tests are documented in Jim Hand's book "How to Build MAX - PERFORMANCE PONTIAC V-8s", which is the bible for all Pontiac Muscle Car enthusiasts.
Edit: Tony, no kidding, however the tests are, of course, valid irregardless of the powerplant in question. Bench testing is, hold on now!, BENCH TESTING ( You know, they just plug in a series of mufflers into straight 2.5" or 3.0" exhaust pipes on the bench! )...That method tests overall flow numbers while eliminating all variables associated with different car makes, models and year of manufacture. Regarding Jim Hands BOOK, I merely detailed the source for my data, a common requirement to establish authenticity. LOL!
Many pilots of .40 size airplanes are powering their models with .50 size 4-stroke engines like Saito's famous FA-50. Captivated by the sweet sound of a 4-cycle engine, they also appreciate the slightly higher static thrust that comes via a bigger diameter prop.
