Helicopter Main Rotor

WHAT IS MAIN ROTOR IN HELICOPTERS and Will love to know it function and the types of helicopters you know now?

Helicopters generate their lift by rotating their wings (blades) throught the air, as opposed to hurtling down a runway. Rotor speed is quite critical, too slow and they cannot generate enough lift, too fast and the blade tips can exceed the speed of sound. Other problems associated with helicopters is the fact that a rotating mass, ie the blades cause an opposite reaction. They need a method of counteracting that force, mostly by having a tail rotor which like the main rotor will have varying pitch. When a helicopter is flying forward through the air, the advancing blade is travelling faster than the retreating blade, thus it creates more lift on one side. The pitch of a rotor blade is controlled via servo jacks, these tilt something called a swash plate, part of that plate is stationary, ie connected to the servo jacks, the other is rotating, ie connecting to the blades, so when the pilot moves the controls, the swash plate tilts and thus the blades angle changes. The main rotors have to be balanced, the mechanics will measure the vibration and sometimes add little weights to pots in the head itself. The blades must also fly at the same level, ie one blade not higher than another. One method to do that is to attach small, numbered plates to the blade tips. When the in flight the mechanic will shine a stroboscope, (flashing light) at a certain area, the light will flash at a set frequency which will display the numbers and thus the tracking can be determined. If needed the track can be adjusted via the track rods attached to the swash plate or via trim tabs on the blades themselves. Hope this helps you.

how many RPM does a r/c helicopter motor do??

i wanted to hook a small carmera to one of them r/c helicopter but the camera is to heavy for the store bought r/c helicopter.
so i figure i could make my own seeing how its mainly about lift, able to stay stable in air, tilt(the main rotors) and back rotors.( i know its a lot more to it, but just to keep it simple.....)
the first queston is how fast or how many RPM does your store bought r/c helicopter do?
the next question is where can i get a motor that produce more RPM'S than your store bought r/c helicoper? and the last question is, to be able to lift about 1lbs or 3lbs or more( Not Including the weight of the motors and blades), would i have to use a gas motor rather than eletronic one??? cause i would like to hook up more than one camera including batteries.

Check out Runryder.com, you may find a kit is better than designing your own. And a lot of the r/c helicopters used professionally for photography (including all of mine) are electric due to less noise, no smoke, and far fewer vibrations.
The lifting range you are looking at (1 to 3lbs) would be well sited for an Align Trex 600.
