Head Block Cracked Head / Block versus Blown Head Gasket?
I'm supposed to meet up with a seller in the morning to discuss buying a boat. One of the better selling points for me is that "the head gasket is blown" so he's letting it go CHEAP. My question is this... Is there a sure fire way to know the difference between a blown head gasket and a cracked head and/or block. I plan on taking the head in to have magnafluxed and check the head gasket when I pull the head to check for blown gasket, but I know most people take their vehicles in to a shop and the shop says, "oh, its a blown head gasket". How do they know for certainty that the vehicle doesn't have a cracked head and block also. I used to work as a mechanic's helper so I can replace the head and know what's involved. But never knew how most shops got by with just replacing the head gasket and send the vehicle out the door without any magnafluxing of head or block. Is there a sure fire way to tell the difference between the three? Looking for answer from a mechanic in the trade...
As far as telling the difference between a cracked head and a blown head gasket is a bit hard because both can give you the same symptoms.
When you remove a head it should always be crack teated before you put it back on.

What player on your team makes you want to smash your head through a cinder block wall?
White Sox- Paul Konerko. He is having a horrible year, he is basically untradeable, he is getting old, he is going to start for the rest of the year, and has a long expensive contract. That makes me want to go 90 mph at a cinder block wall with my head.
Nick Punto - I hope the next time he tries a head first slide into first that he breaks his fingers and is out for the year. Great defense, but offensively he is horrible to watch. I have to literally turn my head so I don't see what he attempts to do,
