Fin Glow I just bought some 'glow fish' Danio's and placed them in my 20 Gallon tank with about 5 guppies. Problems!?
I just bought 2 'glow fish' Danio's today and placed them in my Guppy Tank to see how they'd do. However, they're tearing up some of the fin's of the male guppies. Will it be wise to keep them in there or move them to another tank? Plus, it seems they like to chase the guppies and nip at them on a regular basis. What should I do?
I bought more Danio's last night for the total of 5 and yet they insist on picking on the Guppies. I woke up this morning, and my tiger tailed guppy was tore up! It was evident, they were picking on some others too from the look of their fins. The guppies this morning, are terribly stressed sitting at the top of the water than swimming about like they usually do. I took the Danio's out, and placed them in a tank of their own, seeing that eventhough, they're in a school, they insist on still inflicting damage to the guppies. So, now, I have 20 gallon's of stressed out and beat up guppies. What should I do now to get them back on their feet?
Buy at least 4 more danios, 6 would be even better. This gives them something to chase after other than guppies, and they do a lot better with good company.

if i want to shoot a long projectile either horizontally or 45 degrees above the horizontal, will it fly straight without adding fins on the bottom? im still gonna make the front end go to a tip and be heavier than the back, but i cant add fins on with the design i want to use...think i'll be okay? (i'm building an airgun for my physics class and i want to launch a glow-stick because i think it'd be cool to use at night just for fun. like i said im gonna add some pennies or dimes to one end and then give it a conical point, but when i load it in my barrel it obviously cant have fins on the bottom or else it'll get squished...what do you think?)
i should add in that i want the glow stick inside of the barrel so that it can accelerate for a small distance before it takes off, and then i can adjust to make a longer barrel for max distance later on for fun after i turn in the project
The basic cause of the instability is that the resultant of the aerodynamic forces on a body act at a point called the "center of pressure" which tends to be about 25% to 30% along the length of the body from the front. However the center of mass tends to be in the middle, behind the center of pressure.
So, if the body starts to move away from flying straight, the moment arm of the aerodynamic force destabilizes it and turns it further away from being straight.
The easy fix is to put some fins on the back which generate bigger aero forces at the back of the body, and move the center of pressure behind the center of mass.
Another way is to move the center of mass forwards by putting a weight at the front (which is what you seem to be planning to do). Then, you effectively have a small projectile with a long tail (like a kite tail). However firing than from a gun without damaging the tail might be a problem.
Spinning the projectile (as with a rifle bullet) helps, because the projectile then acts like a gyroscope and it requires a large force to change which way the axis of rotation is pointing. But an airgun probably won't generate enough force to spin the projectile, even if you had a rifled barrel. You could make it spin by using fins - except you you don't want to have fins
