How should a wireless router be set up properly to a laptop? The router model is D-Link DSL-904.?


The laptop's ISP is AOL Broadband Silver. The wireless router is showing up as connected but it won't connect us to the internet.

First connect the laptop to the cabled network and find out your routers IP-adress and if it's DHCP that gives your wireless router an IP or that you have to enter it manualy.

You can check your default gateway IP by going to a command window (start>run>'cmd'). In the black window enter ipconfig. You see an Ip-adress of the default gateway (router)?

Enter this ip-adress in an internet explorer window. Enter the password (probably admin/admin, you can find out in your manual)

i suggest get a Belkin. Great Service, Great NetWork, Great Help and doesnt take long to set up. Its good for the wii. Quest DSL Modem? A Modem isnt wireless for Wi-Fi compatibility. I suggest get a belkin and hook up to the modem and ther you can get wi-fi. You need a modem and a router to have wifi or get a network that is wireless router and provides internet.

    I would put your computer on the DMZ of your wireless router, set up a password for your wireless, and (alternatively) plug straight into your dsl model instead of going through the router. Do this last one first, see if you still have the problems.
