2 cycle vs. 4cycle engine weed eater with edger attachment?

I have a 30cc 2 cycle engine and I got a edger attachment for it, but when I tried to use it, it would not move when it was applied to the edge of the grass and seemed like it didn't have enough juice. If I move up to a 4 cycle 29 cc engine will it work? Or is the edger attachment just worthless?

Over 20 years ago I bought a 2 cycle Green Machine with a string head, saw blade and bush blade. The engine is still going strong today but I have replaced worn parts as needed. It is a commercial grade tool. The comsumer grade products sold in discount stores like Walmart are toys compared to commercial products.
If you live in the city and have only a small lawn you probably shouldn't invest in expensive equipment. However, if you expect to be using this tool a lot for many years, go ahead and invest in a good one. John Deere bought the Green Machine patent and now make an identical product. Sthil makes a good product and several others. It really all depends on your needs and finances. Good luck.

Engine efficiency

I want to introduct something about Dry Chrome Color Wheel. Model No: Yellow Wheel NEW TECHNOLOGY USING DRY CHROME WHEELS CAN BE COLORFUL

Engine efficiency of thermal engines is the relationship between the total energy contained in the fuel, and the amount of energy used to perform useful work. There are two classifications of thermal engines- (1) Internal combustion (gasoline, diesel and gas turbine, ie., Brayton cycle engines). (2) External combustion engines (steam piston, steam turbine, and the Stirling cycle engine). Each of these engines has thermal efficiency characteristics that are unique to it.
Modern gasoline engines have an average efficiency of about 25 to 30% when used to power an automobile. In other words, of the total heat energy of gasoline, 70 to 75% is rejected (as heat) in the exhaust or consumed by the motor (friction, air turbulence, heat through the cylinder walls or cylinder head, and work used to turn engine equipment and appliances such as water and oil pumps and electrical generator), and only about 25% of energy moves the vehicle. At idle the efficiency is zero since no usable work is being drawn from the engine. At slow speed (i.e. low power output) the efficiency is much lower than average, due to a larger percentage of the available heat being absorbed by the metal parts of the engine, instead of being used to perform useful work. Gasoline engines also suffer efficiency losses at low speeds from the high turbulence and head loss when the incoming air must fight its way around the nearly-closed throttle; diesel engines do not suffer this loss because the incoming air is not throttled. Engine efficiency improves considerably at open road speeds; it peaks in most applications at around 75% of rated engine power, which is also the range of greatest engine torque (e.g. in the 2007 Ford Focus, maximum torque of 133 foot-pounds is obtained at 4500 RPM, and maximum engine power of 136brake horsepower (101kW) is obtained at 6000 RPM).
Engines using the Diesel cycle are usually more efficient, although the Diesel cycle itself is less efficient at equal compression ratios. Since diesel engines use much higher compression ratios (the heat of compression is used to ignite the slow-burning diesel fuel), that higher ratio more than compensates for the lower intrinsic cycle efficiency, and allows the diesel engine to be more efficient. The most efficient type, direct injection Diesels, are able to reach an efficiency of about 40% in the engine speed range of idle to about 1,800 rpm. Beyond this speed, efficiency begins to decline due to air pumping losses within the engine.
The efficiency depends on several factors, one of which is the compression ratio. Most gasoline engines have a ratio of 10:1 (premium fuel) or 8:1 (regular fuel), with some high performance engines reaching a ratio of 12:1 with special fuels. The greater the ratio the more efficient is the machine. Higher ratio engines need gasoline with higher octane value, which inhibits the fuel's tendency to burn nearly instantaneously (known as detonation or knock) at high compression/high heat conditions.
It should be noted that at lower power outputs, the effective compression ratio is less than when the engine is operating at full power, due to the simple fact that the incoming fuel-air mixture is being restricted. Thus the effective engine efficiency will be less than when the engine is producing its maximum rated power. One solution to this fact is to shift the load in a multi-cylinder engine from some of the cylinders (by deactivating them) to the remaining cylinders so that they may operate under higher individual loads and with correspondingly higher effective compression ratios. This technique is known as variable displacement.
Diesel engines have a compression ratio between 14:1 to 25:1. In this case the general rule does not apply because Diesels with compression ratios over 20:1 are indirect injection diesels. These use a prechamber to make possible high RPM operation as is required in automobiles and light trucks. The thermal and gas dynamic losses from the prechamber result in direct injection Diesels (despite their lower compression ratio) being more efficient. An engine has many parts that produce friction. Some of these friction forces remain constant (as long as applied load is constant); some of these friction losses increase as engine speed increases, such as piston side forces and connecting bearing forces (due to increased inertia forces from the oscillating piston). A few friction forces decrease at higher speed, such as the friction force on the cam's lobes used to operate the inlet and outlet valves (the valves' inertia at high speed tends to pull the cam follower away from the cam lobe). Along with friction forces, an operating engine has pumping losses, which is the work required to move air into and out of the cylinders. This pumping loss is minimal at low speed, but increases approximately as the square of the speed, until at rated power an engine is using about 20% of total power...(and so on) To get More information , you can visit some products about Tie Rod Assembly, Sharp Copier Parts, . Ok man. i don't get Paid to work on cars. So I'm not technically a professional. But I've been working on the sense high school and did an engine swap on a car at 17. I would definitely recomned an "LS" based engine. This includes the infamous lS1, LS2, and so on. But also includes the LQ9 engine. The LQ9 is a truck engine from the silverado, hummer, Chevy full size van and MANY other General motors trucks. But the catch is, it's the same block as in the GTO, Corvette, and Trans Ams, So it will fit in your camaro. Will accept parts for the LS1's and other LS motors. They are very many of these LQ9's out there so you can find the at a good price, with the the ECU and wiring harness, often with less than 100,000 miles. It's full injected, so there is no cosntant timing and carb adjstments every time the weather changes. The displacement is 6 liters. 367 hp, and 375 pound feet of torque. Check em out.

DeWitt: I don’t think so. For perfect optics, entropy wouldn’t change because optics are reversible.. So are perfect reverse cycle air conditioners, Stirling cycle engines, but such perfect devices do not exist. It’s a local undoing of the ever increasing entropy associated with expanding radiation field over distance. I agree however total entropy does not decrease with perfect optics. But optics aren’t perfect and entropy will increase. Absolutely but we still will have that local reversal.I’ve seen Jan Pompe take others to task for less.I’ve mellowed a little ;) Tortured expressions of the 2nd law are to be expected it can be a difficult concept to try to get across.

    Hello Josh and Chuck,
I recently listened to your biohydrocarbon podcast. Thus, I would like to bring to your attention an environmentally friendly alternative to motor oil called G-Oil made by Green Earth Technologies (GETG). I feel that this company would make a follow-up story because their oil helps to preserve the environment, stimulate the American economy, and it is an easy substitute with no additional cost for being “green.”
Green Earth Technologies products are made entirely from renewable American grown base oils which help free America from the clutches of foreign oil. The results are superior performing products that are totally green. All of their products are Ultimate Biodegradable (ASTM Standard’s highest available ranking) which means they are environmentally safe. G-Oil is no-smoke engine oil made from beef tallow for 2 and 4 cycle engines. This oil was tested by the American Petroleum Institute and was shown to outperform synthetic oils. The amazing thing about Green Earth Technologies is that they can produce 110 quarts of oil from the leftover fat of one cow(chicken and pork fat can also be used). Multiply that by 100,000+ head of cattle and there is enough oil to sustain a large portion of America. The benefits of this oil are enormous. It’s 90% biodegradable in nine days, renewable, harmless to humans and animals, helps America become energy independent, takes less energy to make than conventional or synthetic oil, reduces pollution by a large percentage in both 2 and 4 cycle engines, and makes it easy to go green. I have tried them and was shocked at how well they worked. I used their 2 cycle engine oil in my snow blower this winter and hedge trimmer this spring. Not only was the engine smokeless, but it actually saved me money. This is because their 2 cycle oil can work in any 2 cycle engine without having to up the concentration of oil. Just pour a fixed amount of G-Oil into one gallon of gas and it can be used in any 2 cycle engine no matter what ratio it is.
To get to the point, not many people know about this company because it is relatively new. I feel that if they were to hear about Green Earth Technologies from a reputable source they would definitely be intrigued. GET products are currently available at Home Depot and Amazon.com with many other outlets carrying them soon. You can read about the company and all of its products at http://www.getg.com.

    Thanks

Don't be such a skeptic. If you truly were Hitler's mother's window cleaner, you probably do not believe in God either! You are obviously speaking out of lack of knowledge. I personally owned a 1959 Progress motor scooter from 1964 to 1968. I commuted almost daily 8 miles back and forth to college, in all but the very coldest weather. It had a Sachs 200cc 2 cycle engine and a four speed gearbox. (Sachs was a German motorcycle manufacturer.) It would do about 65mph and was very reliable. It truly was a hybrid in that it had 16″(or the metric equivalent) motorcycle wheels and a Sachs motorcycle engine. They are indeed very rare, but if you look carefully on the internet you can find some pictures of them. I certainly can attest to the one I owned, but have never seen another one. I only have a few pictures of mine and when I can figure out how to put them on the internet, I will do so. CycleTrader.com has one listed for $7,900.00 at this time. If I could afford it, I would buy it immediately, because it was such a good scooter and it brings back many good memories.
    Respectfully,
A former Progress Motor Scooter owner.
