Corsair Folding Wing

carrier aircrafts wing-fold in mid flight?
for carrier aircrafts, which normally incorporate folding wings
for example) f4u corsair, f8 crusader, fa 18...etc
if you fold your wings in mid-flight, woudnt it break off?
and even with the wings broken off, if the aircraft generates enough power (which is obviously not the case for the corsair but maybe for the fa18) could it sustain leveled flight and land safely without a part of its wing missing?
ive also heard of an isreali f15 pilot who landed with the right wing completely gone
how was this possible?
I have never heard of carrier aircraft's wings folding up in flight. The utilize an over-centre locking mechanism than cannot be accidentally disengaged. It has to be manually forced out of position.
As for the Israeli F10; one did fly almost 15 miles to base after a mid-air collision with a friendly. The fact that this aircraft is overpowered, has a partial lifting body and independent elevators saved the aircraft. I'm sure some other responder has a link to the video clip. I can't seem to find it right now.
