Clutch pedal does not return with foot (minimal pressure) on the pedal, but complete press to shift works fine
Hi,
I have a 95 Honda Prelude. A while back my clutch went down and never came back, and I realized that the fluid was empty, and refilled it by pouring fluid into the container to the drawn line.
Ever since then, the clutch pedal is working fine with i normally shift by pressing it all the way down and releasing it. It comes back to the original position. I have no problem shifting this way. I can hold the clutch pedal at the low position while idling and it will still come back to the high position.
However, if I simply put my foot on the pedal causing a slight pressure to be on the pedal, the pedal will slowly sink down to the low position and never comes back. I can make it work again by manually pull it back up to the high position.
Anyone knows what may be the cause of this? Why is it working with complete presses and releases and fails when I put my foot on the pedal?
thanks in advance
Fluid leak in the system has allowed air into it. The fluid was low and it does not get used up and can only disappear via leak. Find the leak (slave cylinder, hose, line, master cylinder) fix and bleed the system - no more problems.

Have I been another female ripped of from my local garage?
Last night my car broke down on me. The cluctch just gave way to the floor. I had to get it towed to the nearest Garage i Stratford. At the garage I have been told that bearing had gone and they fixed that and he put in a complete new clutch.......he charged me £230 including parts and labour but that was because initially he thought it was the clutch cable. Can anyone help.
i own and operate a repair shop, and if he put in a complete clutch and pressure plate, and all the needed parts in it,that wasn't a bad deal, i would have asked to see the old part though but when a pressure plate gets worn out where the bearing rides on it,you have to replace it,so he only probably did what had to be done on it,he would have had to replace the clutch disc and the pressure plate and the release bearing in it,so that wasn't bad ,providing he really did all of that,id find out for sure, good luck with it i hope this helps.
