Brushless High Electric Motors, What works better high voltage or high amperage?
Which one works better having high voltage or high amperage? and which would make an engine more powerful because at the moment brushless DC motors and AC motors are basically the same. Which would be better to power a car motor? High voltage? or high amperage? Some links would be useful
Voltage and Amperage are dissimiler terms, one cannot be compared to the other.
Voltage is potential. Amperage is current. Most people confuse the voltage in AC or DC as the actual current and this is incorrect. This follows Ohm's law. For instance, you can take "Jacobs Ladder" (The two metal towers that electric current travels up and pops off at the top) and actually touch the eletric current(amps) without much more than a tickle. This is because it has around 10,000 volts but it is only about 45 ma's. It has great potential(10,00 volts) but very little current (amps) so it does no harm. On the other hand, you can get large numbers of amps out of low voltage. Many electric set ups in the remote control world run on 12 or less volts, but can have a current(amps) of 50-60 amps or more. The important question is Watts. Watts are a calculation of Amps, Volts, and resistance(since you are moving electricity through solids such as wires etc, their is always a for of resistance) and that equasion tells you the Watts. Watts is the power of the motor. You want a high Watt/ low Amp ratio as you can get. This will allow your motor to run longer(low amps means low current useage) with more power(watts is the power of the motor). Their is a happy median that people try to acheive and also includes discharge rate of batteries(The draw), capacity(how much potential), temperature, humity, and many other outside effects.
