what is the difference between an AC Adapter and a battery charger?
I lost the charger that came with my digital camera. So, I bought a 5V AC Adapter. Is this the same thing as a battery charger? Or will it only work while it's plugged into the wall now?
AC and DC are completely different. Your digi cam is designed and capable of only accepting DC low level power. If you plug AC into it it will not work and/or will FRY the camera circuits if the voltage is rated to high. You must get an adapter that puts out the required DC voltage AND the amperage in order to work.

Jim, Yes, green means everything, as in a TCO kind of way. Everything counts. And remember…just b/c you turn off equipment doesn't mean it's not still drawing power. “Vampire power” or “phantom load” refers to the electricity that's still used when hardware (e.g., laptop battery chargers, cellphone chargers) are not connected to the laptop or cellphone but left plugged into the wall outlet.
To fight phantom power; plug all your electronics into one power strip and turn the strip off when you are finished using your computer. Also, consider investing in a Smart Strip, a power strip that shuts off electricity to other outlets on the strip when a device connected to the “master” outlet is turned off. When possible, also unplug the power strip from the wall to avoid power surges that can happen during a thunderstorm.
